 Description:

 Nimesulide is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase 2, the inducible form of the enzyme found almost exclusively in inflammatory tissues but largely devoid of physiological activity in healthy tissues, in which cyclooxygenase 1 plays important regulating roles (particularly gastric and renal physiological control).


 Clinical pharmacology:

 Mode of action:

 The therapeutic effects of Nimesulide are the results of its complete mode of action which targets a number of key mediators of the inflammatory process: COX-2 mediated prostaglandins, free radicals and proteolytic enzymes and histamine. Recent studies put in evidence the pharmacological activity of Nimesulide on Substance P mediator of pain in inflamed tissues. This activity may explain its effective analgesic activity.


 Indications:
